Do Patti

Kanika Dhillon the writer of the new Indian movie Do Patti, which aired 25 October 2024 only on Netflix, has written a great story. This story is about a police officer who finds herself in a case investigating a crime, where she needs to choose to follow the letter of the law or the spirit of the law. Do Patti also addresses a social problem in general.

The team of te controversial 'It Ends With us' movie  can learn a lot of the creators of Do Patti.

Main Cast

Legend Superstar Kajol (as Vidja 'VJ' Jyothi), Rising star Kriti Sanon in a double role (as Saumya Sood and Shailee Pundir), Indonesia's SRK mister Shaheer Sheikh (as Dhruv Pundir).  Do patti is written by Kanika Dhillon and directed by Shashanka Chaturvedi.

Do Patti has a great concept. You can see it was written by a woman and produced by women. It was engaging the whole time. It had no dull moment. I wanted to know how, why, everything! We have seen a lot of twin double roles in Bollywood / Indian Cinema. I was wondering what they could do new in this movie. I was really surprised by the plot, the writing and acting of the stars. Keeping the social message on a low profile in the trailer, and not giving too much away in the promo's was definitely a good choice by the team.

Everyone was perfectly cast. Kajol my childhood superstar! Fellow Leo, she never disappoints me. Her screen presence is mesmerising. She never breaks character and that is very amazing. You can see she knows her craft. She plays the perfect cop with a background in law. She handles her role so good, that you sometimes forget you are watching the loud and energetic Kajol  on screen. We all know our girl is the Leo of screen, who has a lot of energy and is brutally honest with zero patience. It is also admirable that she is one of those legend actors that is confident in who she is, and co-stars with Kriti Sanon who got the twin role in her bag. In this movie you will not see Kriti's role overshadowing that of Kajol, and you will not experience Kajol's role overshadowing kriti's.Both compliment each other and the male presence.

Kriti Sanon was mind-blowing, with her twin act. It balances out through the whole film. Kriti manages to keep both personalities of the sisters separate till the end. Even when the plot twist is there, some mannerisms give you some shaq and make you wonder 'who is this?', but the story is so well written that you will battle yourself saying: 'naah this sister would not.. or would she?'. The writers have even put a trick in it with the rose one her body, making you focus on that. So well written! You can see Kriti tackled this role as two different characters and approached and delivered it that way. On shy, sanskari sister with some mental and emotional battles vs. One sister that is a rebel, outgoing with her own emotional battles too overcome. Ones again Kriti deserves the respect of being a good actor. She matches the energy of Kajol very well, and does not fall short in screen presence next to her. They should make another great movie together.

Shaheer Sheikh complements both Kajol and Kriti very well on screen. When I saw the trailer I thought, where do I know him from?? Then I opened TikTok and saw Krishnaji with Arjun! Shaheer should also be complimented on being a part of a women oriented movie and not claiming unnecessary screen time or attention in the promotions. The screen time that he has, he uses it wisely to present his craft. In Indian Cinema most of the time the women complement the men on screen. In this movie Shaheer complements the women perfectly. Trying not to give away spoilers, Shaheer transforms himself gradually from lover, spoiled son, conflicted, toxic and more...

Kajol, two faced Kriti Sanon and Shaheer Sheikh played their parts extremely well.

Coming back to the writing of the story by Kanika Dhillon. It was just amazing. With twins you might expect that somewhere they might switch and that will be the plot. With this story (trying not to give spoilers) it was the story behind the story that was surprising and engaging. They focused on the right things and fooled the audience till the end. I mean we all were focusing on the rose tattoo to say: DEKHO they switched! But the plot twist was so good portrayed and surprising that it could  be new and exciting. The moment when the backstory was presented was also good. It was just the missing piece to why some characters were acting the way they did. The background score was also amazing!

Do Patti was good, it was good to follow and nothing complicated. Very good actors, very good story and a very good social message. This is the kind of movie that Bollywood was making back in the day's. Entertainment combined with a generational issue in a social message, put in a modern jacket for society to watch and learn from. I appreciate it focusing on the entertainment, engagement, social issue and not on the now a days sexual overkill in Indian movies. Even the twin sister who's character is to be more outgoing was not over sexualised. This makes it watchable for the Indian audience with some close family members, without it being too awkward.

The clothing design was good. The sister who is supposed to be the shy one had some good (cultural) fashion sense, they did not present her boring or old school. The other sister who is supposed to be the rebel is presented modern cultural without overly sexualising her. There is no unnecessary physical presentation. So, this is a movie that the target audience could watch. The mothers (who experience the social message). The children (who see the actions shown in the social message) the other relatives in the household who were presented by Tanvi Azmi (maaji), Vivek Mushran (the tjatja who knew everything). They acted so well in the movie and complimented each other on screen. Most importantly this is also a good movie for the police force of India, to act more on the social message shown by the creators of Do Patti.

After a long time a good Bollywood movie!

DO PATTI WINS THE GAME!

This movie was in all possible ways a winner!

Le Paanch Sitare gives out the first 5 OUT OF 5 STARS!  ⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️⭐️ 5 out of 5 stars for Do Patti. Amazing storytelling, good plot, social message available, great acting, good music. They won!

Considering the world wide know controversy of the movie 'It Ends With Us' who also tried to focus on a similar concept. That team should learn from the concept of this movie. It has a romantic angle, it has a major star cast and the wardrobe was still simple and perfect!
