The Deliverance

“The Deliverance has some great actors. It brings you in the life of a family that experienced the supernatural. It shows how faith has assisted the family in the battle with darkness. This movie is not over the top scary. It is worth the stars because it has some great acting by the main characters. The storyline is also relatable and, in the climax, some great dialogue delivery by Andra Day. I appreciate it being as much authentic to the true story that is publicly known, and taking the experience of the family serious” - Leelai @iamphoewa Instagram

For people that did not realize, the actor playing the older son Nate is the same child actor, Caleb McLaughlin, who played Lucas Sinclair in Stranger Things. Yes he grew up! We can also see Andra Day (as Ebony Jackson), who was nominated Best Actress for an Oscar in 2021. Together with her we also have Glenn Close (as Alberta), who holds the record of most nominations for an Oscar without a win. Not to forget we can also see Mo’Nique (as Cynthia Henry) back on the screen.
The movie is presented in a good phase. The story presents authentic experiences when talking about a possessed house and people. The first signs people will get like dreams, blackouts, kids will be talking to themselves, acting out, focus on the crows, the levitating, flies, talking in another language etc... It was not an over-the-top horror movie which will make you scared in the moment. It will probably haunt you afterwards.
The end presentation of the demon was a little disappointing. If the demon possessed the child and imitates loved ones, it would be authentic if Anthony Jenkins (as Andre Jackson) acts out as other entities and characters presented in the movie. They cut the child demon to Alberta, which made the scene unrealistic and broke a bit of the engagement. It was all recovered and made good with “The Deliverance” Andra Day gave. That was goosebump worthy and realistic and relatable to real life.
Delivered the performance
The acting was great and the story was based on true events and may be relatable for a lot of supernatural believers.
